What is stopping your restaurant's efforts from being sufficiently rewarded by your sitting customers?

Success: getting your efforts sufficiently rewarded
Success: getting your efforts sufficiently rewarded

Let's begin by exploring what it means to succeed before establishing what is stopping your restaurant's efforts from being sufficiently rewarded by your sitting customers. How do you know that your efforts are being sufficiently rewarded by your sitting customers? Umm... your chefs become accustomed to peeling and chopping onions that trigger tears of imminent sales revenue and their wages......oops that is not the best answer. I would answer this question by saying: making a sitting customer a loyal customer you serve repeatedly is an overall picture and an indicator that your efforts are being sufficiently rewarded.

What gets you to that overall picture and indicator is reaching their spending potential each time you serve them. Reaching it, indicates that your efforts are met and reciprocated. How do you reach a sitting customer's spending potential? Guessing.... by ensuring excellent well-rounded service that: captures all their prevalent tastes and cravings, inspires their tastes to explore new meals that potentially become habitual cravings, lowers sales resistance for your special offers and inspires their impulse buying and sudden cravings...accurate enough?

Well, that answer often leads to a tip for a waiter but that is just the tip of our iceburger. Let's get down to business and focus on what is in your control to ensure that your efforts are sufficiently rewarded by your sitting customers. Before writing this blog I engaged with a lot of restaurant owners and managers. I learned from them that their restaurant's work on providing the following inseparable ingredients at a world class level to ensure customer satisfaction and retention:

  • food and beverages,

  • professionalism (clean restaurant and staff who observe their hygiene & engage with customers in a cheerful and friendly manner),

  • ambience (altered depending on function or occasion to meet a target customer's needs)&

  • communication and service between their sitting customers, waiters and chefs.

Highlighting a need for fast communication and service between your sitting customers, waiters and chefs

Fast communication and service is ensured by having a remote placed on each table and in your kitchen for sitting customers & chefs to call your waiters wearing a watch receiver that vibrates & notifies calls showing which table a call is made & precisely calling a specific waiter needed in your kitchen for food collection.

This technological aid helps your staff to efficiently communicate and serve your sitting customers.  A waiter becomes readily accessible for sitting customers when they are not visible because they are performing tasks or barriers associated with your restaurant's building structure. Sitting customers are absolved from making excessive efforts (chants , hand signaling or movements) to engage with a waiter. Moreover, a sitting customer's frustrations caused by making excessive communicative efforts and inefficient service become rare. Inevitably these frustrations increase their sales resistance, withdraw impulse buying decisions and stop you from reaching their spending potential which sufficiently rewards your efforts.

Preserving a waiter's energy with necessary movement may not fully justify their ability to engage positively with customers but their efforts for positive interaction can become fruitless when met by a frustrated customer. Furthermore, a busy customer who is not certain of receiving fast service can order a cheap and quick meal that does not serve their cravings.

Going the distance with a technological aid

Taking this to greater heights is all up to you but I will make some suggestions. Firstly, you can space out tables or add tables in secluded areas of your restaurant to meet stakeholder needs. These needs can arise as mitigating measures before or during a seasonal flu outbreak etcetera. We!! the sky is your limit if your restaurant's building structure is conducive for adding tables on your roof. Secondly your waiters can become more flexible and perform tasks in and around your restaurant's vicinity. Finally, you can summon your staff at your meeting point effortlessly, promptly and in a less distractive way.

Way forward

Reaching a customer's spending potential and having them slapped by a freshly chopped onion when they open their wallet or handbags, is not your problem. This indicates that your efforts for satisfying customers and retaining them are being sufficiently rewarded. If you or any of your colleagues have any doubts that a technological aid facilitating fast service significantly improves your prospects of having your efforts sufficiently rewarded, please complete our web survey for restaurant owners and managers (on Surveymonkey https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/YQYXGFB or
